Understand Solar Battery & Inverter Error Codes — and Know What to Do Next.

Solar Battery and Inverter Error Codes

Enter the code showing on your inverter or app and we’ll tell you what the manufacturer says it means, how serious it is, and what to do next.

Error code lookup

What's your battery telling you?

Enter the code and we'll tell you what it means, whether it's something you can sort yourself, and whether it should be a warranty claim. We'll email you the detail and any guides that help.

Most codes come from the inverter, even when the battery is the thing at fault.

Type it however it appears — we'll match it.

Enter a code —

Pick your brand and type the code exactly as it appears on the screen or in the app.

Worth knowing: an error code tells you what the system detected, not always what caused it. We confirm against the actual system before quoting any repair, and if it turns out to be a settings change we'll say so rather than sell you a visit.

The same code means different things on different products

This is why generic error-code lists are unreliable. Sungrow’s SH-RS and SH-T ranges use overlapping code numbers with genuinely different meanings. BYD and Dyness batteries usually report *through* the inverter they’re paired with, so the code you see belongs to the inverter’s vocabulary, not the battery’s — which is why we ask which inverter yours is connected to. Where a code is ambiguous, the tool says so rather than guessing.

How we classify severity

Manufacturer documentation describes conditions; it rarely tells a homeowner how worried to be. We’ve added a separate severity classification, and we’re explicit that it’s ours:

1
the system may still be operating. Worth investigating, not urgent.
2
The system is likely degraded or stopped. Needs attention soon.
3
Potential safety implications. Do not attempt to diagnose it yourself.
Where we’ve classified something more seriously than the manufacturer describes it, the tool says which is which. You’ll see the manufacturer’s own description alongside our classification, so you can judge for yourself.

Before you look anything up

If there is smoke, a burning smell, swelling, deformation, or anything hot beyond normal operating warmth — stop. Don’t look up the code, don’t approach the unit, don’t attempt to isolate it unless you already know how and can do so safely. Move people away and call for help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my existing battery work in a power cut?

Only if a backup gateway or EPS was installed with it. Check your handover documentation, or look for a separate changeover unit near the consumer unit. If you’re not sure, send us a photograph of the board.
