Store your solar power, use more of it, and cut your reliance on the grid.
Use Solar Energy When You Need It
Reasons Customers Add Storage
- More solar self-consumption
- Lower use of peak-rate grid electricity
- Off-peak charging on a suitable time-of-use tariff
- Increased evening and overnight electricity use
- EV or heat-pump demand
- Improved energy monitoring and control
- Backup power where specifically designed and supported
A Battery Is Not Automatically Right for Every Property
The financial benefit depends on the difference between import and export rates, how often the battery cycles, usable capacity, conversion losses, system cost and how electricity use changes over time.
A property with low evening usage or very little surplus solar may not use a large battery effectively. We prefer to size storage around real usage rather than install the largest available system.
Solar Charging and Off-Peak Charging
A battery can be configured to store surplus solar electricity. Many systems can also charge from the grid during lower-cost periods and discharge when electricity is more expensive. The available controls depend on the inverter, battery, tariff and installation.
Backup Power
A standard grid-connected battery does not automatically power the property during an outage. Backup requires equipment designed for that purpose, suitable changeover or gateway arrangements, and a defined essential-load strategy. We will only describe a system as backup-capable where that function is included in the design.
