Upgrade your existing battery with more storage capacity to keep more of your solar energy for when you need it most.

Add More Capacity to Your Existing Battery System

Your energy use may have increased since the original battery was installed. An electric vehicle, heat pump, larger household, home working or a change in electricity tariff can all affect the amount of storage that makes sense.

BatteryInstall.ie assesses whether your existing system can accept additional battery modules and whether expansion is the right solution.

Signs You May Need More Battery Capacity

Why Expansion Is Not Always Straightforward

Battery systems are managed by a battery management system, or BMS. It controls how modules charge, discharge, balance and communicate with the inverter. Adding capacity is therefore more than connecting another battery cabinet.

Manufacturers may restrict which modules can be combined. Batteries of different models, voltages, generations, firmware versions, capacities or ages may not be approved for use together.

What We Check

Possible Expansion Routes

Add Matching Modules

Where the manufacturer permits it, matching modules may be added to the existing battery stack or cabinet.

Add a Separate Compatible Battery System

If the original system cannot be expanded directly, a separate battery system may sometimes be installed. Controls, metering and charging behaviour must be designed carefully so the systems operate as intended.

Replace or Reconfigure the Existing Storage

Where equipment is obsolete, unsupported or unsuitable, replacing the existing battery may be more practical than attempting to expand it. We explain the options before recommending replacement.

A product with the same brand name may still be incompatible with an earlier generation. Exact product codes, firmware and manufacturer expansion rules should be checked before equipment is ordered.

Find out whether your battery can be expanded

Send photographs of the battery label, inverter label and current installation. We will identify the system and check the available route.
